Thanks to our BESS containers, trading is possible with all processes and products
Just as shares are traded on financial exchanges, there are also official trading centres for electricity. Electricity producers as well as electricity traders, companies or consumers have access to these markets. The motives for trading can vary greatly. While some market participants want to cover their energy requirements, others use trading on the electricity market to make a profit. Electricity trading is an essential part of the international electricity grid. Trading helps to secure the electricity supply, organise it efficiently and cushion price fluctuations. Electricity trading takes place on the electricity wholesale market at various levels:
– Electricity exchanges (futures trading, day-ahead auction, intraday auction, intraday trading)
– Over-the-counter trading
– Control energy markets
Electricity generators, suppliers, large industrial customers and electricity traders are generally active on the electricity wholesale market. As with any market, prices are determined by supply and demand. However, energy policy and weather conditions also have an influence on the price.
Intraday and day-ahead trading on the spot market
The spot market is a part of the electricity wholesale market on which electricity is traded in real time rather than on a long-term basis. This trading is also known as “continuous intraday trading”. Electricity is traded here around the clock, according to its delivery. Orders can be placed a maximum of five minutes before the trading deadline or the start of delivery. However, this option only applies to continuous intraday trading and is only available after 4 pm on the previous day. There is also day-ahead trading, where orders are placed the day before. Both sellers and buyers must submit their offers by (in most cases) twelve o’clock on the previous day. The exchange calculates the prices on this basis. One hour later, the winning bidder is announced. The two largest spot markets in Europe are the EPEX SPOT (European Power Exchange Spot Market) in Paris and the Nord Pool electricity exchange, which is active in 13 countries.
Strong electricity price fluctuations due to real-time trading
Due to real-time trading, prices are subject to strong fluctuations and are constantly changing. In addition to general supply and demand, other factors such as grid bottlenecks also have an impact on the spot market. Sometimes supply companies have to buy additional electricity on the spot market at short notice if demand threatens to exceed supply. If you currently have full energy storage in your container, you can use such phases to sell electricity at a high price on the spot market. If you would rather have long-term planning security, forward contracts are a good option. You can buy or sell electricity at a fixed price and purchase or supply it at a later date.
With a BESS container from Commeo, you have the flexibility to decide where you trade on the electricity market. Using certified traders, you can trade electricity in OTC trading (“over the counter” – directly between the contracting parties), on the electricity exchange via the spot or futures market or via an electricity pool (a purchasing group). On the electricity exchange, you can buy and sell electricity at short notice on the spot market. Longer-term electricity transactions take place on the futures market (EEX) based in Leipzig.
Flexibility, planning security and scalability
With its container portfolio, Commeo has created solutions that offer you exactly the flexibility you need for your energy supply. A container can be an important piece of the puzzle for your sustainable, economical and independent energy supply. Regardless of whether you need short-term support or a permanent solution – Commeo containers are the right support for both types of application and are also scalable – if your energy storage requirements increase, you can expand the container on a modular basis. This means that your energy supply always adapts to your needs. Use the fluctuations in energy prices to your advantage. Sell your electricity at the best price or buy electricity yourself when it is cheap. With a container, you have access to a location-independent full power supply.
Commeo Container: location-independent use
A BESS container from Commeo offers you a complete energy supply system that is compressed to the size of a lorry load and can be used almost anywhere. With a container, you can store your own surplus energy and then sell it when the price is high. This maximises the income from your generation system and reduces your costs.
The storage systems are based on modern NMC technology (lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt-oxide) and therefore promise a high capacity with a long service life. They also have a higher energy density than other common storage technologies.
The high-power NMC used by Commeo is characterised by its high cycle stability. Up to 10,000 charging cycles are possible with a Commeo container. This clearly sets Commeo’s solutions apart from the competition. The “Made in Germany” seal guarantees additional quality and stands for local added value.
Commeo containers are the all-round carefree package for your energy autonomy
Commeo takes care of the project planning and coordinates the installation and commissioning of the container solutions. Thanks to their robust design, the air-cooled and air-conditioned containers are protected against vandalism and break-ins. At battery level, a three-stage system with sensor monitoring, housing and patented flame filter sets the benchmark for maximum safety and the best possible fire protection on the market. The well thought-out, turnkey container solutions save you major construction work or lengthy planning and authorisation processes.
