So-called “green hydrogen” is considered to be the most important energy source of the future. Its CO2-free generation from solar, wind or hydropower is the key technology for meeting global climate protection goals. However, in order to be able to store, transport and distribute the energy obtained from renewable sources in a targeted manner, it is essential to make the electricity generated from it available with maximum efficiency. For this reason, WILO Projects, as a total system supplier, inter alia in cooperation with Commeo, the specialist for performant intelligent energy storage systems, has developed the H2Powerplant – the sustainable container- and building-integrated power system for industry and commerce.
With this system, it is possible not to feed the electricity generated using regenerative energy sources into the public supply network in the event of overcapacity, but to use it for the production of hydrogen via electrolysers. The H2 obtained in this way is temporarily stored and used as an energy source via a fuel cell if required.
Customized solutions
The revolutionary H2Powerplant will in future be offered in various scaled sizes as a turnkey, container and building-integrated emergency power system for customers from industry and commerce. The system partners plan and configure each project individually and focus in particular on the availability of green energy and the specific needs of the respective customer. WILO Projects not only has the function of a system integrator and developer as a complete system supplier, but also creates and implements sustainability concepts, such as in relation to the expansion of sources for green energy generation. “Hydrogen will replace fossil fuels and enable Germany to have an independent energy supply as a business location,” says Oliver Hermes, Chairman and CEO of the Wilo Group, with certainty.
As a renowned specialist for performant intelligent lithium-ion energy storage solutions, Commeo contributes the batteries and control electronics of the systems – in particular for the reliable, uninterruptible power supply and the compensation of temporary power peaks. In this way, the energy management of individual properties can be optimized to the greatest possible extent. “Our high-performance and efficient energy storage systems are particularly suitable for the short-term storage of green energy and can make this available for the long-term operation of the H2Powerplant, so that the fluctuation ranges are buffered,” explains Michael Schnakenberg, Managing Director of Commeo GmbH. This advantage is decisive for the best possible economic efficiency of the operation of production plants and commercial companies.
In addition, the Commeo EC system used to control and monitor energy flows also provides the opportunity to participate in the control energy market. This means that overcapacities from the public supply network (“balancing energy”) can be purchased and temporarily stored for a negative purchase price.
Complete solution from a single source
The system partners even want to go one step further together: If there is a corresponding requirement, they can imagine to be the operating company for the entire energy management for their customers as well.
WILO Projects GmbH
WILO Projects GmbH is a 100% subsidiary of WILO SE – WILO – headquartered in Dortmund, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of pumps and pump systems. WILO’s corporate policy consists in pioneering efficiency and sustainability. Therefore, WILO launched the hydrogen project in 2021, since hydrogen technologies play a key role in implementing the energy change and tackling the energy crisis. The core of WILO’s hydrogen strategy is the H2Powerplant which increases the efficiency in the use of renewable energy sources significantly. In order to provide project-real and customer-specific solutions, WILO Projects GmbH was founded which will develop comprehensive sustainability concepts as a system integrator.
