Commeo, the innovation leader in all things relating to industrial battery systems, based in Wallenhorst, Lower Saxony, has been firmly committed to promoting research, driving innovation and domestic production since its inception. Old preconceptions just get in the way – the company is adopting new approaches for the benefit of its customers, as we firmly believe this is the right thing to do. This is clear even from the company name: in Latin, Commeo means “I bring together”. For CEO Michael Schnakenberg, this specifically means tackling future challenges in the here and now. This means that dreams and reality, research and production, diversity and individuality are not contradictions in terms. Rather, the company considers it its mission to make the cutting-edge technologies of tomorrow available today.
Our uncompromising developments and production here at Commeo allow us to meet the needs of different market requirements and satisfy customer demands exactly. For the development team, one thing always remains paramount: the greatest possible optimisation of performance in terms of energy production and targeted energy consumption. A central component of every Commeo product is the electrochemical energy storage block. This specially designed patented energy storage block can be connected in series or in parallel in a flexible combination. Due to the extremely flexible interconnection logic and the possible use of many different types of cell and chemical compositions, almost all conceivable applications are possible, without restriction.
Unique technology
The Commeo energy storage block is specially designed for customised use in standardised industry racks or containers. The unique selling point of each and every storage system is its particularly high energy density of up to 160 Wh/kg (or 250 Wh/l) and its power density of up to 450 W/kg (or 650 W/l). Its compact design enables connection of up to 54 individual units in a single standard industrial rack. This means that each unit can reliably produce 250 kW of power.
Future developments at Commeo
“The development rights for components and the independence of the cell manufacturers guarantee that Commeo can make its battery systems economically attractive despite its high level of flexibility and configurability”, explains Schnakenberg. “Expertise in every area of the product life cycle, from development ideas to secondary exploitation, lies within the company itself”. Therefore, the industry visionaries are fully focused on covering the entire value chain from development to production, in order to continue to provide fully customer-oriented solutions in the fields of production, automation and energy supply.
Future investment
For this reason, the young company is planning a further investment of 50 to 100 million euros by 2022 at its main site in Wallenhorst. As a result, current production capacity should increase to at least 500 MWh/year. “Therefore, we have already secured an extension to the site of around four hectares and are further investing in our development team leaders and in the automated production of our innovative energy storage”, explains Schnakenberg. This also includes expanding the offering of futuristic cell formats such as pouch cells, so as to extend the range of use of individually configurable energy storage solutions even further.
