The innovation leader Commeo from Wallenhorst in Lower Saxony and system specialist Wöhrle from Steinenbronn near Stuttgart have now agreed on a sustainable development partnership: In the future, both companies will offer joint solutions to combine highly efficient power electronics and forward-looking, high-performance battery storage solutions based on lithium-ion for all customer requirements. The aim of the partnership is also to develop standards for connecting the innovative Commeo energy storage systems to the components of different manufacturers.
Particularly in the case of high-performance UPS systems, the cooperation between the developers is beginning to bear fruit. This was already demonstrated by a joint demonstration system presented at SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg last fall. The use of lithium-ion storage instead of the industry-standard lead-based systems offers numerous advantages: Due to their significantly higher energy and power density, the much more compact Li-ion systems require up to 50 percent less floor space than conventional lead-based UPS batteries.
Replacement of lead-based UPS systems
In addition, Commeo and Wöhrle’s systems actually operate maintenance-free, offer a much longer service life, guarantee consistent flexible scalability and, most importantly, do not outgas under normal operating conditions.
“All of this together reduces operating costs by a considerable amount and ensures that lithium-ion solutions will largely replace lead-based systems in the UPS sector,” Commeo Managing Director Michael Schnakenberg is certain.
Another major advantage of the solution jointly developed by Commeo and Wöhrle is that it meets the requirements of Industry 4.0 with standardized interfaces and reliably enables its applications. In addition, the UPS systems can be fully monitored at any time via web interface.
Development expertise in the area of emergency power supply
“We very deliberately chose Wöhrle as a development partner because, as an independent dealer, they use inverters, chargers and other UPS system components from many different manufacturers,” says Schnakenberg. The expertise in matching the company’s own energy storage systems to the changing requirements of different system components is indispensable in the interests of the customer, he said – and both development partners benefit equally from this in their leadership in expertise in emergency power supply. “This is the only way to actually realize special solutions specifically tailored to individual customer needs and environmental requirements,” Schnakenberg emphasizes.
Innovative energy storage systems are the way of the future
“At Wöhrle, we make a point of finding solutions for all requirements and keeping up with the times – there is no way around Li-ion storage systems here. That is why we are glad to have found such an innovative and strong partner in this field in Commeo,” explains Dietmar Ruscher, technical manager at Wöhrle Stromversorgungssysteme GmbH. “The energy storage systems can be perfectly combined with our highly efficient UPS systems, so that we can offer an optimal solution for protecting critical loads for every application.”
