Commeo reaffirms its plan to invest millions in the Wallenhorst site

In an impressive demonstration of focused commitment, Commeo has underpinned its intention to significantly expand production capacity. This strategic move is aimed at further strengthening the development and production of stationary energy storage systems for industrial and commercial applications. Commeo’s distinctive red block-shaped energy storage modules are known for their exceptionally high energy density, power density and safety. In an ambitious plan, Commeo will make an investment in the double-digit millions by 2023/24 to increase production capacity to over 600 MWh per year. At the same time, diversifying and expanding the range of applications for individually configurable energy storage solutions is a significant component of this ambitious corporate vision. Commeo is passionately committed to a sustainable energy future and demonstrates this through pioneering innovations and a clear focus on excellence.

An important architect of this remarkable vision is Michael Schnakenberg, the managing director of Commeo GmbH. He is pursuing the vision of making tomorrow’s cutting-edge technologies usable today. This vision manifests itself in the development and production of stationary energy storage systems that are revolutionizing the industrial and commercial sectors. Through consistent innovation and ongoing research, Commeo has achieved a leading position in this rapidly evolving sector. The partnership with the Osnabrück District Economic Development Office, WIGOS, underscores the company’s close ties with regional institutions and demonstrates Commeo’s investment in the shared goal of a sustainable energy future.

The COVID 19 pandemic has highlighted the crucial importance of comprehensive digitization for society and the economy. In this context, a reliable, independent energy supply is indispensable in many areas of application. Commeo has recognized that intelligent solutions are of great importance in this context and is focusing precisely on this. Michael Schnakenberg emphasizes that the key to his company’s success lies in the uncompromising development and production of battery systems that precisely meet the diverse market requirements and customer demands. A team of developers works to optimize and target energy generation to achieve maximum efficiency.

At the heart of the Commeo product are the striking red energy storage modules. These block-shaped units are not only powerful and compact, but also aesthetically pleasing in design. The electrochemical building blocks, which are protected by intellectual property rights, offer impressive flexibility in interconnection. This flexibility, in combination with the use of different cell types and chemistries, enables a wide range of applications. The cooperation with the renowned market leader RITTAL GmbH & Co. KG enables the use of these power blocks in standardized industrial racks or container solutions.

The unique USPs of the Commeo blocks, such as their high energy density of up to 150 Wh/kg (or 220 Wh/l) and their power density of up to 440 W/kg (or 650 W/l), together with their high intrinsic and system safety, make them an outstanding solution. These blocks are not only strong, but also compact, which means that up to 48 energy storage blocks can be interconnected in a single standard industrial rack. A single energy storage cabinet can provide up to 200 kW of power, and the ability to interconnect multiple cabinets opens up the possibility of megawatt-scale outputs. Commeo energy storage systems reliably bridge power outages, support operations by cutting peak loads (peak shaving) or are used in conjunction with photovoltaics.

Commeo’s independence in the development and production of its battery systems ensures an economically attractive design. Full control over the entire value chain enables customized solutions for production, automation and energy supply. This comprehensive know-how guarantees not only customer-oriented solutions, but also economic efficiency from the idea to recycling.

A look into the future shows a company that is continuously growing. Commeo is planning a substantial investment in its main site in Wallenhorst by 2023/24 in the double-digit million range. The goal is ambitious: production capacity is to be increased to more than 600 MWh per year in the first construction phase. This project is accompanied by an expansion of the product range, including future-proof cell formats such as the pouch cell, in order to further expand the range of applications for the individually configurable energy storage solutions. Michael Schnakenberg emphasizes that these investments are not only in the technological infrastructure, but also in the development team and automated production. This will help make Commeo’s innovative energy storage solutions even more widely available and usher in the next era of sustainable energy storage.
